Analogue of the Theorem of Birkhoff in a Metric Nonsymmetric Theory of the Gravitational-Electromagnetic Field

چکیده
Recently [1] we have shown that the solution of the field equations of a metric nonsymmetric theory of gravitation [2I,II] outside a spherically symmetric time-dependent matter distribution is necessarily static. This is the analogue of the theorem of Birkhoff of general relativity (GR). Here we extend the result to the situation in which electromagnetic field is also present, that is, when the time-dependent source is charged . This is the situation for instance for a radially pulsating charged sphere. The proof of the result, which we will call the static theorem, will run along the same lines of GR as presented, for instance, in [3]. The form of the field equations when the electromagnetic is included into the theory was studied in [4] and the solution for a point charged mass was obtained. In what follows we will be making use of the field equations of that paper. The paper is organized as follows. In Sec. II we present the vacuum field equations of the theory and in Sec. III, we prove the static theorem. In Sec. IV we draw our conclusions.

A nonsymmetric gravitational theory (NGT) is presented which is free of ghost poles, tachyons and higher-order poles and there are no problems with asymptotic boundary conditions. An extended Birkhoff theorem is shown to hold for the spherically symmetric solution of the field equations. A static spherically symmetric solution in the short-range approximation, µ −1 > 2m, is everywhere regular a...
متن کاملStudy of Solar Magnetic and Gravitational Energies Through the Virial Theorem
Virial theorem is important for understanding stellar structures. It produces an interesting connection between magnetic and gravitational energies. Using the general form of the virial theorem including the magnetic field (toroidal magnetic field), we may explain the solar dynamo model in relation to variations of the magnetic and gravitational energies. We emphasize the role of the gravitatio...
متن کاملCosmological Models in the Nonsymmetric Gravitational Theory
Cosmological consequences of the nonsymmetric gravitational theory (NGT) are studied. The structure of the NGT field equations is analyzed for an inhomogeneous and anisotropic universe, based on the spherically symmetric field equations. It is assumed that the matter density and pressure are purely time dependent, and it is shown that the field equations allow open, flat and closed universes. T...
متن کاملSpherically Symmetric Solutions in a New Braneworld Massive Gravity Theory
In this paper, a combination of the braneworld scenario and covariant de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive Gravity theory is proposed. In this setup, the five-dimensional bulk graviton is considered to be massive. The five dimensional nonlinear ghost-free massive gravity theory affects the 3-brane dynamics and the gravitational potential on the brane. Following the solutions with spherical s...
متن کاملRay-tracing and Interferometry in Schwarzschild Geometry
Here, we investigate the possible optical anisotropy of vacuum due to gravitational field. In doing this, we provide sufficient evidence from direct coordinate integration of the null-geodesic equations obtained from the Lagrangian method, as well as ray-tracing equations obtained from the Plebanski’s equivalent medium theory. All calculations are done for the Schwarzschild geometry, which resu...
